Triple Zip Pouches

I just finished participating in a Triple-Zip Pouch Swap on Flicker.  It was lots of fun.  The pouches are based on the tutorial found here.  I did make all of my pouches an inch longer than the tutorial called for.  I think I am going to make the next one wider and taller.  They are fun to make and the possibilities are endless.   I have several more that I want to make.  I think they will make great gifts for friends especially if they are filled with chocolate.....

 I had fabric in my stash with these cute quilting sayings on them.  I have a few more that I hope to make before the month is over.  The fabric is by Moda from the line Bobbins and Bits.

I am not happy with how the back turned out but I did not feel like ripping it out.  I will make changes to my pattern the next time I make this. 

 This explains why my sewing room looks the way it does.  Why is it so hard to put the fabric back where it was neatly folded once it has not made the "final cut" when pulling fabrics to audition for ones project?

 Here is the pouch I sent of to my partner - I am hoping that she likes it.  I filled it with goodies before I sent it off.  I hope she likes it.

Projects from Sew Down Portland

I had a wonderful weekend in Portland and met lots of wonderful and talented people.  I did not get as much done as I had wanted to - I am sure this has to do with the fact I always underestimate how much time it takes me to do something and the fact that I am always adding projects to my list.

Here is my Mini Shooting Stars Quilt Top I completed this in the class taught by Lee Heinrich.  In class she had us do flying geese the traditional way as well as paper piecing.

 

The next quilt I finished was the You +Me quilt by Heather Jones.  This went together really fast.  My daughter is already claiming this one. 

 

 

Here is my improve round robin block that was done in class with Sherri Lynn Wood.  The class was a lot of fun - it really got me out of my box.  I had a lot of trouble working without a ruler.  I am planning on cutting this block up and making some throw pillows with this.

 

I had to leave Julie Herman's class early as I was worried about the roads.  Portland managed to get a snow storm in the middle of Sew Down.  I will post a picture of my project as soon as I complete it.

Wedding Quilt

I can't believe it - the quilt is done.  I just finished a custom request for a double sided king size quilt.  I think I am done with large quilts for a few months.  This was a challenge for me as the fabric had already been selected.  The quilt was made with the table runners that had been used for the wedding reception.  The front was made with fabrics in blue and green.  I must confess that I did add two fabrics to the front.  I  had some yardage in my stash that went with the rest of the fabric and I was worried about running out. 

After some thought it was decided that the back should have the fabric that was blue and brown.  I added several fabrics from my stash in the back  - I was running out of blue fabric and I felt a granny square quilt should have more variation in it.

I rented a long arm machine to do the quilting as I did not feel like fighting with a quilt in my machine.  This is the third quilt I have done on a long arm and I have yet to deviate from my meandering loops - I know I need to try something else I am just terrified of really messing up the quilt.  I did not feel like experimenting on a quilt with this much piecing especially since I would not be able to replace most of the fabric if I ruined it.  Perhaps I will find my courage on the next quilt.

 

I am participating in a triple zipper swap.  Here is the first pouch I made based on the tutorial found at the Quilters Table.  It was pretty easy.  The  last part was a little tricky and I finished mine differently.  I am going to make a few more before I decide which one to send off.

Classmate Bag

I cant believe I am actually making progress on my list - I am finishing more projects than I am starting.... I realize this momentum can change at any moment. I just finished the Classmate by Terry Atkinson.  It was easier to make than I thought it would be.  The hardest part was doing the binding with the plastic lining.

Inside of bag - my large zipper zips from the wrong side but it still works and it is in straight.

 

The bag has lots of pockets and will be great for carrying some of my hand sewing around. 

 



I managed to finish a quilt top that I will be donating - unfortunately it will be a couple of weeks before I get to quilting it.  I ran out of fabric and was not able to make it as long as I wanted - so I added a large strip of Kona Coal to the bottom of it.  I will take another picture once Mother Nature cooperates with me.  I plan to back in a grey flannel. 

I am off to make a few triple zipper pouches for birthday gifts next week.  I also have a quilt in the dryer that I hope to have photographed in the next day or two.  Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts.

Zippy Pouches

I recently spent some time with my niece.  She was having lots of fun playing with my fabric.  I took several of her fabric selections and turned them into pouches for her.  I used the tutorial from Noodlehead.  It is a wonderful tutorial and very easy to follow.  Once I started it was hard to stop making them.

I even managed to make a few extra pouches to put last minute birthday gifts in.  Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for finish it up Friday.  This weekend I hope to finish up two quilt tops.  What projects do you have  planned for this weekend?

A Little Bag for my Sister

My sister likes little purses.  Some time ago I saw this pattern by Flutter_Kat.  I thought it would be perfect for her. 

The pattern was pretty easy even though it had two zippers. 

It has a built in credit card holder as well as interior pocket with a zipper.  On the other side of the purse it has an additional pocket that will hold your phone and a pen upright.  I forgot to take a good picture of zippered pocket.  It is large enough to hold a bad of chocolate peanut butter cups in it.  I am happy to say when I gave her the purse the chocolate was still in the bag unopened. 

I hope to finish some more projects this weekend as my niece has a birthday on Sunday and she made a few selections from my fabric stash.

First finish for 2014

I actually started and finished something in less than 4 days!  I can only hope the rest of my projects go so smoothly this year.  My inspiration came from this quilt done by Molly found at Purl Bee.  To make the quilt I used a jelly roll from my stash and paired it with some Kona Natural.  I may just do another one of these before this month is over.

 

 

I decided to practice quilting loopy L's. It went much quicker than I thought it would and was fairly easy for me to do.  The quilt is backed from some flannel from the same line.  After washing the back became super soft. 

 

I have been slowly tackling the task of cleaning and organizing my sewing room.  Sadly I now know that it is possible to spend over 12 hours folding 1/2 yards and fat quarters ~ and not be done.  Below is a picture of the organized section of the room. 

Before moving on to organize the other side of my sewing room I took some time to read a few blogs aka procrastinating....  I happen upon a post from Little Island Quilting that struck a cord.  I certainly am not lacking fabric.  I have made a few fabric pulls and I am now working on a quilt  to send her way.  I can always finish cleaning my sewing room next week....
